Tired Puppy

The Smaller Portion did not last a week.  He is now back in hospital suffering from:  diverticulitis, adhesions from his previous surgeries and a partially (mostly) obstructed bowel.  He is feeling sore and sorry and I am feeling like death on a stick.

The diverticulits is treated with antibiotics.  The adhesions and the blockage may clear themselves - or then again they may not.  If not further surgery will be needed.  Which reminds me I need to ring the doctor's surgery tomorrow to cancel the appointment to have the staples from his last hospital stay removed.

This crass and vulgar image leaps to the forefront of my mind.

  1. Sorry for the SP, but he is where he needs to be. More sorry for you because you don't have staff looking after you. Unless SiL is still with you?
An early night might be in order.

    1. dinahmow: He is indeed where he needs to be. The battle to get him to agree to that was epic though. I had my early night and feel improved for it. His sister is still with us. She is more than a little peeved at him though - she had asked him the day before (when he surely knew all was far from well) whether he was improved enough for her to go home. He answered in the affirmative, and she booked her flights. Which she now wants to change. I told her that any financial penalties were his.

  2. Oh blasted. Darn it. Drug yourself and sleep. I use Nyquil, half a sip. tonight, it was margarita and not half a sip.

    1. Strayer: I didn't need drugs last night. One glass of wine (small) and I fell into bed and crashed. Big time.

  3. Sorry to hear that EC. Didn't like the prognosis after being allowed home with an inflamed wound. Hope you are both OK.

  4. Oh No! This is awful! What happened? They let him go home too soon? I'm so sorry, I hope he comes through this okay, and you too. This has to be stressful.
I'm off to the doctor myself tomorrow, I've had pain in my side/back, around the ribs off and on for months now. I'm sure it's just muscle strain, but I'm getting it checked now that I'm on holiday. And while I'm there I'll mention a few other test I want done.

    1. River: I think it was a combination of things - they let him home too soon, and he didn't shout out when things were not as they should be. Good luck at the doctors and I really hope that it is just a strain.

  5. Oh EC, that is awful for you both! Was it because he was shoved out too early....?

Are you going to be OK? Do you have an opportunity to rest up and look after yourself during all this as well...?

    1. Kath Lockett: It is vile isn't it? As I said to River, I think it was a combination of things. Hopefully they have both learned from it.

  6. I'm sorry he had to go back, but even more sorry for you. It does sound as if they let him go too quickly.

  7. O dear, I so hoped he would recover fast (for you both)
This is bad news. I don't know what to say really, other than the obvious; that the blockage moves of it's own accord and recovery follows . . . meantime that you get some peace and rest.
I feel for you both. I hope and pray for some light to shine through.
    Thoughts and prayers x

  8. Bugger, for him and for you. This time I hope they keep him in until he is better and that he does the right thing and eats when they tell him too (and what they tell him too).

Please rest as much as possible, send his sister up to visit while you put your feet up and be kind to yourself.

Much love, healing wishes and a great big hug from Perth xxx

  9. Oh man....it sounded too soon for him to be cut loose from the hospital and sent home and, it was. Here's hoping the blockage moves on its own and he heals up fast. Get some rest if you can. Healing thoughts headed your way from Canada.

  10. Well, shame on the hospital for releasing him too soon - he obviously needed to be there until what sounded from your last post as the beginnings of some post-op complications had been properly cleared up, rather than heap on top of that the stress of these repeated releases and re-admissions. May SP recover soon and this bad stretch of road become smooth again. Sending you much love and all the faith and stamina I can spare!

    1. Two Tigers: While in the Accident/Emergency ward yesterday they were trying hard to tell us both that it was a co-incidence that these things happened so soon after his release. 'Liar, liar pants on fire...' Love, faith and stamina gratefully received.

    2. We have a private joke here when it comes to doctors: "It's a coincidence!" Because no matter what obvious cause-and-effect thing is happening, it's always a "coincidence." Doctors never take responsibility for anything.

    3. Paper Chipmunk: How can you be so unkind about doctors? Those lovely men of course know more than you do. And have immense egos as well. Sigh and growl.

  12. Sorry for SP, I know how uncomfortable all of this is for him. Hopefully, with the assistance of a few good nurses and doctors, they will get it right this time.
As for you, tell SP that you are taking a day for yourself ... that you need to rest and get back on your feet so you can be there for him when he comes home. Then just stay home for a day a veg out. Take a Benedryl (used as a sleeper in most hospitals) and sleep until you wake up on your own. If the Sil is still there, tell her to do the same. If you get sick it won't be good for anybody (especially not you), so give yourself permission to take care of BP. I wish you well ... you will be in my prayers.

  17. That is awful! I can't imagine how tired you must be, both physically and mentally! I love the button! Hopefully you can get some rest while the SP is in the hospital, (like usual I can dream can't I), but know that you will be doing a lot of sitting in the hospital. Which is never relaxing. Prayers said that everything will pass and another surrgery will not be nesessary!
